Regardless of getting his hand raised, Saul Rogers didn’t depart Bellator 296 with a win.
Initially awarded a first-round submission victory over Davy Gallon, Rogers (15-5 MMA, 3-3 BMMA) the outcome was overturned to a no contest by the Mohegan Tribe Division of Athletic Regulation and French Blended Martial Arts Federation simply minutes after the battle ended Friday at Accor Enviornment in Paris.
Rogers put Gallon (21-8-2 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) in a D’Arce choke about two minutes into their light-weight bout. The submission was tight, however Gallon was doing the correct protection. Referee Jacob Montalvo, who didn’t have a very good view of Gallon’s face, thought Gallon was put to sleep and stopped the battle. Gallon instantly protested and confirmed the referee he was defending the transfer.
Regardless, Rogers was awarded the win and bought his hand raised in the midst of the cage. Minutes later, Bellator commentator John McCarthy knowledgeable on the published that Roger’s win was now a no contest.
Bellator introduced that the choice to overturn was made after “an prompt replay assessment.” It’s unclear how this ruling will have an effect on the pay or both fighter.
