GREENSBORO, N.C. – The College of Chicago swimming & diving groups racked up 14 All-American awards at day two of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday.
Jesse Ssengonzi shattered his personal faculty document and NCAA meet document within the males’s 100-yard butterfly prelims. The UChicago junior’s time of 46.47 was solely 0.01 seconds off the all-time NCAA Division III document. Within the night finals, Ssengonzi claimed NCAA runner-up in 46.68. Teammates Garrett Clasen and Jared Zhang reached the comfort closing as each earned Second Crew All-America in ninth place and thirteenth place, respectively.
The lads’s 200-yard freestyle relay blew previous the earlier faculty document as properly. The quartet of Zhang, Jason Starbuck, Jonathan Tang and Arthur Kiselnikov put up a time of 1:19.80. That mark secured fourth place and First Crew All-America honors.
UChicago’s 400-yard medley relays earned All-American podium finishes for the lads and the ladies. The lads’s group of John Paul Phillips, Clasen, Ssengonzi and Kiselnikov grabbed third place in 3:12.76. The ladies’s relay of Ioanna Georgopoulou, Alicia Soosai, Emily Xu and Karen Zhao snagged eighth in 3:46.92.
The 200-yard freestyle featured six complete Maroons in motion. Zhao reached the ladies’s championship closing and positioned fourth total in 1:50.34 to achieve First Crew All-American accolades. Kiselnikov grabbed First Crew All-America standing along with his seventh place displaying (1:39.05), whereas Kyle Garcia was a Second Crew All-American in tenth place (1:37.96).
Marcell Milo-Sidlo stormed his approach to a college document within the males’s 400-yard IM prelims with a time of three:54.80. He ended up as a First Crew All-American with a seventh-place end within the night session.
The Maroons garnered Second Crew All-America honors in three different occasions. Logan Sherwin (437.00 factors) and Andrew Chen (434.55 factors) took eleventh and thirteenth, respectively, within the males’s one-meter dive. Emily Xu grabbed tenth within the girls’s 100-yard butterfly (55.59). The ladies’s 200-yard freestyle relay (Xu, Olivo, Chanell Kann, Grace Schwieters) positioned tenth in 1:33.89.
