Eryk Anders was pulled from his Chris Weidman battle on the UFC 309 pay-per-view (PPV) occasion final weekend at Madison Sq. Backyard in New York Metropolis, a last-minute withdrawal that got here with no rationalization and left battle followers scratching their heads.
The perpetrator? Meals poisoning, which has been identified to fell fighters on battle day.
“Standing replace: bought meals poisoning Friday evening and there was no manner I’d have been capable of go on the market and compete,” Anders wrote on Instagram. “Tremendous upset I didn’t get to compete at MSG in opposition to a former champ.”
“I significantly doubt that chance will come round once more, however it’s what it’s,” Anders continued. “Hopefully we are able to get that matchup rebooked ASAP. Thanks all for the messages of concern.”
At the least it wasn’t deadly (not even kidding).
Anders (16-8, 1 NC) is simply a few months faraway from his unanimous determination win over Jamie Pickett at UFC Vegas 87 in Las Vegas. As for Weidman (16-7), he returned to the win column with a call victory over Bruno Silva at UFC Atlantic Metropolis final March.
Hopefully UFC can rebook their middleweight showdown for this upcoming battle card.
