It was the hills. We had hills throughout campus and within the surrounding Los Altos Hills, a really rich enclave close to Los Altos.
Our idea was that we may get most 800m-5000m athletes in racing form in about six weeks if the did THE HILLS.
Hills can construct pace, power, and confidence.

Exercise for Day 2, Week 4:
Warmup slowly,
20 minutes, eay to reasonable,
8 x 400m hills, push exhausting, jog down slowly,
20 minutes, reasonable,
8 x 300m hills, push exhausting, jog down slowly,
20 minutes reasonable to exhausting,
6 x 150m stride outs,
Cooldown, slowly,
hydrate,
develop into dry garments,
recuperate.
Larry’s deep ideas: Many coaches use Hill Reps all yr lengthy. The good Rob De Castella, WC 1983, Boston 1986, Comm Video games twice gold, had his Tuesday exercise every week a hill day.
