That is certainly one of my favourite exercises.
This was our Tuesday exercise at Bellarmine from January to March 1975. We ran on our 352-yard dust monitor from 1912, rain or shine. I recall doing this exercise in heavy rain. We bought on the market. Chris Schenone, Bob Flores, Bob Lucas, Pete Dolan, John Beall, Nicky Pelinga, Chris Sakamaki, and I used to be on the market with senior Dan Greeny and star Larry Goode.
After twelve weeks of that Tuesday exercise and 660-yard runs on Thursdays, we ran Time Trials at 880 miles and a pair of miles. All of us ran PBs in these runs. I ran a 2:10 for half of 1 mile, 4:56 for a mile (my first time beneath 5 minutes), and 10:56 for two miles (my PB by over a minute). That season modified my life, thanks to educate Steve Pensinger, who we worshipped.
Forty-nine years later, I can shut my eyes and listen to Bob Lucas laughing at one thing Chris Schenone mentioned. I can see Pete Dolan attempting to determine us out and Nicky Pelingua following up with a very good joke.
